In one of the concerts that I have watched before, the production team (I know) used good lighting truss that were high enough to light the whole stage. Even though I was not that near the stage, I could still see clearly the performer, and by the way, it was a dinner concert, so it came with a delicious serving of food. I had a great time watching the concert and at the same time, savoring the sumptuous meal I had. It was not cheap but it was worth it. The performer was one of the most famous singers in the country and he was on tour and the dinner concert was the perfect event for Valentine’s day.

With good food, good music and a romantic ambiance, it was the perfect setting to fall in love.

While browsing my newsfeed in Facebook, I saw an article on 15 cute snacks or lunch for kids. So I opened up the article and read through it. One snack really caught my eye, it’s the Angry Bird sandwich.

Although the Angry Bird craze and hype have already faded away, I still thought of making one for Kuya Bogs following the recipe in the article. Here’s a shot of the Angry Bird sandwich I made for his lunch today. Just pardon the image, I took it with my old iPad.

This sandwich calls for:

mini bagels – in my case, I did not have mini bagels that time, so instead, I used bread (which was easier to form), I used white bread here, you can either have whole wheat or any other kind.

salami or ham – cut it to form a mouth, reserve the remaining portion to make the hair on top of the bird’s head.

parmesan cheese – for the white part of the eyes

black olives for the brows and pupils – I did not have black olives too so I just used raisins for this part.

cheddar cheese – shaped into a beak

Assemble everything and viola! In just a little under 5 minutes, I had a sandwich for Kuya Bogs, and guess what! He loved it! He finished his entire lunch in school just only during snack time! Hubby had to bring him another sandwich to school for his lunch!

It was a hit!

I honestly have never been to a fine dining restaurant, or maybe I have been before but I have no idea if it was fine dining or just a simple restaurant, lol! But I don’t know if I can manage to eat well in a restaurant where I am not even familiar with the food and those many utensils on the table that I don’t even know how, when and where to use. I will probably end up eating less and wanting to just have fun and eat my heart out in a fast food or in a buffet.

But I have learned that some fine dining “food trips” are also available in a limo service like the st petersburg fl limo service. Oh yeah, I get to see this type of fine dining and exquisite limo services on TV shows and sometimes, I would wish that I could experience such before I leave this world. I know it’s quite expensive but I think it would be worth it. With courteous and professional chauffeurs to make anyone feel extra special (like a celebrity), that’s just like hitting jackpot.

Oh well, I wish one of these days I can get to eat (again) in a fine dining resto and probably have fun and enjoy some wine and cruise the town in a limo… just like the rich and famous…even for just one night.

Summer is the perfect time to hold pool parties. If you have been itching to wear that swimsuit and to dive into those cool waters of your pool, then make sure that your pool, pool supplies and others stuff needed for the coolest pool party in town is ready. Be sure to visit www.poolsupplyunlimited.com for your swimming pool needs. Your pool surely needs the revamp after being “tucked away” during winter and fall.

As for food for pool parties, you can have chili wings, fresh garden salad, ice cream, slush, tropical guacamole, barbeque, pizza and a whole lot more. You can also have a theme for your pool party like an underwater theme, Little Mermaids (for kids’ parties), or just simply a typical pool party. Make sure your drinks such as colas, slush, lemonades, piña coladas and other cold beverages are flowing so that there is a continuous supply for the party-goers. Finger foods are also great for pool parties. Tropical fruits can also be an essential to a pool party. You can whip up a festive fruit salad medley or just serve them plain.

There can be many variations as to what you can prepare and serve at a pool party, depending on your theme and budget, you can always play around and create a super cool pool party in the neighborhood.

Because I am lactose intolerant, I can’t take milk, and I do know that I need to have calcium in my body to keep my bones strong and healthy. I know there are other sources of calcium but milk is (by far I’ve known), the best source of calcium. And since I can’t have milk, I am trying out yogurt.

I am aware that yogurt has also milk but I am just not sure how many percent of milk in yogurt. So I bought a pack of four individual and snack-sized yogurt at the store and granola cereal to go with it. I tried eating one serving and waited for about an hour to see if I would get an upset tummy, as I always do when I drink milk. Fortunately, there was none. I felt very fine and I guess, I can take yogurt.

The only thing that I don’t really like with yogurt is that it is a bit sour for me. So what I do is to put more granola into it so that I don’t get to taste a lot of the sourness. Anyway, I am still experimenting and really finding out if I can take yogurt and not have an upset stomach afterwards. If this will work, then yogurt will become a part of my diet and will be in my grocery list.

I have finally found a Maja Blanca recipe that’s easy to make. While doing my blog visits, I came across a Filipina’s blog and she particularly posted a Maja Blanca recipe so I stayed on her blog and copied her recipe.

This is what the recipe calls for:

1/2 cup cornstarch

3/4 cup sweet corn kernels

1/2 cup sugar

2 cups thin coconut milk

3 tbsp sweet corn kernels or finely chopped peanuts

It is very easy to make. Using the food processor, sieve well the 3/4 cup sweet corn kernels. If you don’t have a food processor, you can just mince the corn kernels. Then combine all ingredients, except for the 3 tbsp corn kernels, in a saucepan. Cook over medium heat stirring constantly until the mixture thickens. Transfer to a small aluminum pan, or a medium-sized mold (like Tupperware or Ziplock plastic containers). Top with the remaining corn kernels or chopped peanuts. Chill to set.

Unfortunately, for this recipe, I wasn’t able to take a photo. I was so excited to eat my first ever Maja Blanca that I totally forgot to take a shot of it! But anyway, if I am going to make Maja Blanca again, I will make sure I get a snap of it!

Since I work at a grocery store that sells organic products, I get to buy organic fruits and vegetables there. Even though I don’t get employee’s discount and the prices of the produce are a bit higher compared to those being sold in regular grocery stores, I still prefer to get fresh produce there. Knowing that these produce don’t go through the conventional methods of growing, they don’t have any chemicals being sprayed on or placed on the soil and other harmful chemicals on them.

There is also a difference in the taste in the organic produce. For example, the bananas at the store, which is from Del Monte is sweeter than those being sold at the regular grocery store, which is from Chiquita or sometimes from Dole. When I wash my tomatoes, cucumbers, lettuce and other greens bought at my store, they don’t have that oily yet sticky feeling in their skins or leaves. Those that are at the regular store feel that way. Oranges at my store are way sweeter than those at the other store. I may be biased but based on my experience, there is really a big difference.

If you want to see the difference too, try buying organic produce and compare. I mean, my opinions are mine and may differ from yours, but I know that it’s healthier (even though not cheaper… well, just a few cents above those at the regular stores) and free from chemicals, these are for sure!

The last time I ate this Filipino dessert was during a birthday celebration in hubby’s grandmother’s house. It was I think the year 2011! That’s two years! And because I don’t know how to make one, I have been searching online for the simplest and easiest way to make Maja Blanca.

If you know how to make one, please do contact me via my contact page. I would really appreciate it if you can give me a recipe that’s easy and simple.
For most of the family travels and vacation packages that I have got for us, it is breakfast that is usually included with the accommodations. That’s what I love about it because aside from the fact that we have saved a lot from the accommodations, we get to eat breakfast for free. That means we don’t have to go out anywhere and eat fast food meals but instead, hotel-prepared dishes, and international cuisines to top that.

I have always been on the lookout for the cheapest vacation packages around here in Ontario first where meals and other food events are included (talk about travelling on a budget). The reason why I have to choose such vacation packages is because I want to spend some of the budget to see other sights and attractions of the place that we are heading too and experience the life and culture of that certain destination. I’d like to take my family to a place where food is a different and at the same time a wonderful and gastronomic experience.

I am thankful for travel companies that offer cheap vacation packages with food and meal inclusions, that means I can save a lot and spend a well-deserved break… and still be able to indulge!

I decided to cook spaghetti the other night and oh boy, it was gone after just a few minutes of being served! Spaghetti is really everyone’s favorite!

Kuya Bogs loved it a lot and had to ask for another serving. He had it topped with Kraft Eden cheese that I have bought at the Asian store. He had been looking for that cheese and when I finally got it, he was so happy. So he had a big portion of the cheese grated and placed it on top of his pasta! He was a happy boy eating mom’s spaghetti. Hubby on the other also cleaned his plate and Job just ate like his big brother.

It just goes to show that spaghetti is still a staple here in my family’s dining table. So I make sure that I have stocks of pasta and spaghetti sauce so that when I want to have clean plates from the boys, then I know what to cook! Spaghetti!
